About BioRISE

The BioRISE project weaves together Indigenous Ways of Knowing with Western Science to address issues of molecular, organismal, regional, and global importance.  We apply concepts like "two-eyed seeing" to a wide variety of the biological sciences to address the question,

~ "How do systems bounce back?" ~

We align with and develop projects designed by Tribal Nations to increase Native capacity and skills to address environmental and ecological questions at many scales.

Trainees

Trainees in our program will have the opportunity to join a cohort of trainees in learning about Indigenous research methods, work in a community of practice, and gain valuable technological and research skills in fields like soil science, plant biology, forestry, fisheries management, and more.

Each trainee will spend one year working directly with Tribes to understand research techniques, collect data, and analyze and report results back at our annual research symposium.

Mentors

Each academic mentor will undergo several months of intensive training for understanding and working with Indigenous trainees, and will be paired with a mentor from one of our Tribal partners to support and journey with each trainee through the research process.
